Honey Garlic Chicken

  • Author: Adaline L.
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

Few things bring comfort quite like the aroma of garlic sizzling in a pan, especially when it’s followed by the rich, golden sweetness of honey. Honey Garlic Chicken is one of those universally loved dishes that finds its way onto dinner tables again and again—for good reason. It’s simple, fast, and full of flavor, with that perfect balance of sweet, salty, garlicky goodness that makes each bite better than the last.

Ingredients

Scale
  • pounds boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch (for coating)

  • 2 tablespoons oil (vegetable or olive oil)

  • 4 garlic cloves, minced

  • ⅓ cup honey

  • ¼ cup soy sauce (low sodium preferred)

  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar

  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil (optional)

  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)

  • 2 green onions, sliced (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

Step 1: Prep the Chicken
Pat the chicken dry with paper towels, then season with salt and pepper. Toss the chicken pieces with cornstarch in a bowl until evenly coated. This step helps create a light crust and thickens the sauce later.

Step 2: Sear the Chicken
Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken in a single layer, working in batches if needed. Cook for 4–5 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and set aside.

Step 3: Make the Sauce
Lower the heat slightly and add the minced garlic to the same pan. Sauté for about 30 seconds, just until fragrant. Add the honey, soy sauce, vinegar, and sesame oil (if using). Stir to combine and bring to a gentle simmer.

Step 4: Combine and Simmer
Return the cooked chicken to the pan and toss to coat in the sauce. Simmer for 3–5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens into a sticky glaze that clings to the chicken.

Step 5: Garnish and Serve
Turn off the heat and sprinkle sesame seeds and sliced green onions over the top. Serve hot over steamed rice, noodles, or vegetables. Don’t forget to drizzle any extra sauce from the pan—it’s liquid gold

Notes

You can also bake the chicken at 400°F (200°C) for 20–25 minutes, then brush with the honey garlic sauce and broil briefly to caramelize. It’s a great hands-off alternative.
