Description
Red Velvet Molten Lava Cakes are more than just a treat—they’re an experience. A warm, velvety cake that gives way to a molten center of creamy chocolate with every spoonful. For many of us, red velvet is synonymous with celebration—whether it’s the classic slice of cake at a wedding, cupcakes at Valentine’s Day, or now, in this romantic twist on the molten lava cake.
Growing up, red velvet was always a cake reserved for special moments. I still remember the first time I had a lava cake—it felt so luxurious, so indulgent. So, blending the two into a single dessert was inevitable. These Red Velvet Molten Lava Cakes are perfect for anniversaries, Valentine’s dinners, or just because you deserve a little something extraordinary on a quiet night in.
The deep red hue, paired with the surprise of a creamy, slightly tangy molten center, gives this dessert its charm. And let’s be honest—it looks as beautiful on a plate as it tastes in your mouth.
Ingredients
- 4 oz white chocolate, chopped
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 large egg yolk
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon vinegar
- 1/4 teaspoon red gel food coloring
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
- Pinch of salt
- Optional toppings:
- Powdered sugar for dusting
- Fresh berries
- Whipped cream or vanilla ice cream
Instructions
- Step 1: Preheat and Prepare
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease two 6-ounce ramekins generously with butter and lightly dust them with cocoa powder to prevent sticking. - Step 2: Melt the Chocolate and Butter
In a microwave-safe bowl or using a double boiler, melt the white chocolate and butter together. Stir until smooth and let cool slightly. - Step 3: Mix Wet Ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg, egg yolk, vanilla extract, vinegar, and red food coloring until fully combined. - Step 4: Combine
Pour the cooled chocolate-butter mixture into the egg mixture and whisk until smooth. - Step 5: Add Dry Ingredients
Sift in the flour, cocoa powder, powdered sugar, and a pinch of salt. Fold gently until the batter is smooth and uniform. It should be thick but pourable. - Step 6: Bake
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared ramekins. Place them on a baking sheet and bake for 11–13 minutes. The edges should be set, but the centers should still jiggle slightly when shaken. - Step 7: Let Cool Slightly
Allow the cakes to cool for 1–2 minutes. Then, run a knife around the edges and carefully invert onto serving plates. - Step 8: Serve Warm
Dust with powdered sugar, top with berries or ice cream, and serve immediately for that irresistible molten center.
Notes
- These are best served immediately, but the batter holds well if you want to bake fresh for guests.
- Don’t worry if a little center leaks out when inverting—that’s part of the charm.
- Ramekins between 4–6 ounces work well; adjust bake time slightly if using larger or smaller ones.
